Fundraising For Us

Our fantastic supporters have fundraised for us in a myriad of ways; from intimate gatherings, to communities banding together through to amazing gala events. All contributing, all making a difference in more ways than one – the awareness and discussion around stillbirth that is created from any event is just as important as funding.

We’ve listed a few ideas here but please don’t feel limited by this list – the most successful and least stressful events reflect you and your comfort zone.

Some ideas to consider:

  • Host a gold coin morning tea or high tea
  • Host a backyard twilight movie night
  • Set up a cake stall or create cards to sell at local markets
  • Ask for donations in lieu of gifts for your birthday
  • Set up a Fundraising page through Everyday hero and ask friends and family to donate on behalf of a loved one
  • Hold an online auction through biddingforgood with donated items from local stores/suppliers
  • Ask for sponsorship to shave your head / beard / moustache
  • Organise a family fun day at your local park
  • Tie your event in with days such as Mothers day, Fathers day, International Pregnancy and Infant Loss day as a prompt and theme an event such as a lunch, a poker night, a bake off
  • Got a special skill or know someone who has one? Put on a workshop … cake decorating / floristry / jam making / home brewing

Once you’ve got your concept, fill out an  Application for Authority to Fundraise and we’ll get you started.

Make sure you read our Guidelines for Community Fundraisers to help make things as smooth and successful as possible!

Fundraising tips

Although everyone approaches fundraising differently, here are some tips to get you started and on your way to reaching your goal.

  • Getting Started

    • Start early; the sooner you begin your fundraising efforts, the more you’re likely to collect.
    • Planning how you are going to raise funds from start to finish can save you a lot of time and hassle later, and help you to go beyond your initial targets.
  • Asking for Donations

    • Approach your boss to find out if there are match giving schemes, whereby they match their employees’ charitable contributions.
    • Ask close friends and family members to donate first as other people may then match their generosity.
    • Make a list of people to ask for donations and decide the best way to make contact with them. Although you may feel a nuisance, don’t be shy about approaching people. Remember that the worst they can do is say no, and more often than not they will happily say yes.
  • Keeping Communication Lines Open

    • Keep your friends informed. Email them your fundraising link and provide regular updates on your progress. The updates are interesting for those who have already supported you and a reminder for those who haven’t.
    • Include the link to your fundraising page on your email signature, at both work and home. This will raise awareness of your efforts and ensure every email you send could prompt a possible donation.
    • Be creative – put up posters with your fundraising link, host a dinner party and ask for a small donation as an admission fee, or offer to do chores in return for a donation.
    • Personalise and update your online fundraising page frequently. Add pictures and let people know why you have decided to fundraise for the Stillbirth Foundation Australia. It is also important to note where their funds will go and in what ways the money will help.
  • After the Event

Don’t forget to remind everyone post event that there are still opportunities to fundraise. They might be persuaded by the effort you put in and what a great result you achieved.
